Era #1 - The Nineteen 90s

The era of cool, as some would call it. The 90s. In South Africa it was a mish-mash of colour, structured haircuts, catchy one-liner kwaito songs and of course the booming of the New South Africa.

This was also the era of the "coconuts" (You know, those kids who were black on the outside and white in the inside, yeah, them). Ethnic disco and Bubblegum music started to fade and the birth of Kwaito, which was more of house (Then called "international") music with the tempo slowed down and ridden with lyrics.

The 90s era had a distinct and colourful style and was more of a means to express individuality amongst the youth. From the bright orange Maffiozo denim jeans to labels like BB Berrutti, Cerrutti, Moschino, Samson, Dickies, Doc Martens, Kangol, Boss Of The Road and many others.

What do you remember about the 90s?
